Financial Analytics: Financial Management at a New Level

The March 26 collection date, April 1 incomplete status, and April 5 release of plans based on mid-March data represent yesterday's approach. We build processes that perform reliably under load: data flows continuously rather than in batches, forecasts update daily, and consolidation runs during night hours rather than business hours.

Illustrative chart: in the batch process, Excel files are collected on March 26, the status is still incomplete on April 1, and the plan released on April 5 is based on mid-March figures. With continuous data flow, forecasts are updated daily and consolidation runs overnight.

Three focus areas in financial management

Planning · Forecasting · Consolidation
01

Planning & Budgeting

We implement rolling forecast methods instead of rigid annual budgets. The planning approach is based on identified value drivers rather than granular detail budgets for every cost center. When market figures or corporate assumptions change, scenarios can be recalculated within minutes rather than taking weeks. Depending on your technical foundation, we work with SAP Analytics Cloud Planning or Microsoft BPC.

02

Forecasting & Predictive Finance

Cash flow forecasts emerge through analysis of historical payment patterns, current information about supply chain dynamics, and the age structure of receivables. Rather than having controllers set numbers based on intuition, machine learning algorithms learn underlying patterns from the data. This method is less intuitively elegant than expert estimation but significantly more accurate. When market conditions change, the forecast adjusts automatically without requiring manual spreadsheet formula updates.

Consolidation & Regulatory

ESG reporting distinguishes between Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, each encompassing different value drivers. Currently, ESG reporting and traditional management reporting run in parallel, with each based on separate data sources. This fragmentation must be overcome. We build systems where a single trustworthy data source feeds both legally required reporting and strategic management.

The revenue forecast is a central driver of every financial plan, and it originates in sales. Our focus topic Sales Performance Management shows how to measure its accuracy and improve it with an ML model alongside the sales commit.

Why Barling for Financial Analytics

What sets us apart
01

Finance Requires Different Thinking

An external consultant presents an attractive dashboard. Your CFO asks the critical questions: are the numbers correct? Do they correspond with official consolidation? Do they align with the SAP system? A visually appealing dashboard is not equivalent to financial truth. We design systems where income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow originate from a single trustworthy source. This ensures full traceability, audit-proof records, and reasoning that stands up to auditors.

02

Consolidation Demands Systematic Processes

A subsidiary in Singapore reports in Singapore dollars while the holding company needs results in euros. Intercompany invoices between units in the US and UK must be eliminated to prevent double-counting. Some group entities close on December 31, others on June 30. Consolidation is fundamentally a coordination problem that spreadsheet approaches cannot solve. We therefore develop established processes and systems for this task.

03

Audit Trails Are Essential

The auditor asks legitimate questions: from what source does this number come? Which person entered it? At what point in time? In what system version did it exist? Without comprehensive audit trails, these questions can only be answered with vague shoulder shrugs. A well-designed audit trail system, however, enables precise and verifiable answers to every question. We integrate audit trail functionality not as a retrofit addition but as a fundamental design principle of all systems.
